Molly LaRocca, Certified Master Beekeeper and Classroom Educator

Meet Molly LaRocca: Combining a decade of classroom teaching experience with a deep love for pollinators, I specialize in bringing hands-on bee education to schools across the St. Augustine area. I hold a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, a Master's in Special Education, and a Master Beekeeper Certification all from the University of Florida.

Through these thoughtfully designed K-5 programs, students discover the different roles bees, and the vital work bees do for our food supply. I hope they walk away with a newfound respect for these incredible little creatures, replacing any fear with fascination!

Pre-K

Little Pollinators

Duration: 30 mins Price $125 per session

This lesson offers a gentle, tactile introduction to honey bees for young learners. This 30-minute presentation focuses on sensory exploration, allowing children to engage with tactile props and a simulated hive environment. Students will discover how bees act as nature's helpers and learn the importance of bees to our world.

Grades 1-2

All About Honeybees

Duration: 45 mins Price $150 Per session

Dive into the inner workings of the colony! This lesson introduces the unique roles within the hive (Queen, Worker, and Drone), the essential jobs of a beekeeper, and the importance of keeping bees. Students will get hands-on experience examining hive products and authentic equipment, wrapping up with an exciting peek into our simulated hive.

1st Grade

  • SC.1.L.14.1 – Make observations of living things and their environment using the five senses.
  • SC.1.L.16.1 – Make observations that plants and animals closely resemble their parents, but variations exist among individuals within a population.
  • SC.1.L.17.1 – Through observation, recognize that all plants and animals, including humans, need the basic necessities of air, water, food, and space.
  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.MD.A.1 – Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.
  • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.1.2 – Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.

2nd Grade

  • SC.2.L.16.1 – Observe and describe major stages in the life cycles of plants and animals.
  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.A.1 – Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
Grades 3–4

The Pollination Partnership

Duration: 45 mins Price $150 Per sesssion

Discover the incredible partnership between plants and pollinators! Starting with a fun breakfast investigation, students explore how flowers are stuck in place, how they use bright petals and nectar to attract helpers, and the unique traits that make bees the ultimate delivery drivers. Wraps up with an exciting look inside our digital simulation hive!

3rd Grade

  • SC.3.L.15.1 – Classify animals into major groups (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, invertebrates) according to their physical characteristics.
  • SC.3.L.17.1 – Describe how animals and plants depend on one another and their environment for survival.
  • SC.3.L.1: (LS1-1 equivalent/Life Cycle) – Develop models to describe that organisms have unique and diverse life cycles, but all have in common birth, growth, reproduction, and death.
  • SC.3.L.4: (LS4-3 equivalent/Adaptations) – Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular environment, some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all.

4th Grade

  • SC.4.L.16.1 – Identify processes of reproduction and growth in various living organisms.
  • SC.4.L.17.4 – Recognize ways in which plants and animals impact the environment.

Ecosystems & Pollinator Protection

Students take a more in-depth look at specific pollinators including carpenter bees, bumble bees, and honey bees to examine their unique traits and behaviors. Ultimately, this session empowers young learners to become environmental stewards by discovering practical, everyday ways to support and protect local pollinator populations in their own backyards.
